Role of hand arteries

Hand arteries ensure vascularization (supply of oxygenated blood) to fingers and entire hand.

Warning signs

  • • Abundant, pulsatile bleeding
  • • Pale or white, cold finger
  • • Intense pain with numbness
  • • Absent pulse below wound

Surgical repair

Arterial suture is microsurgical intervention under operating microscope with extremely fine threads (70-100 microns).

What to do in case of heavy bleeding?

  1. 1. Apply compressive dressing
  2. 2. NO tourniquet (except extreme situation)
  3. 3. Elevate hand
  4. 4. CALL 112 IMMEDIATELY
